CAREER PAPER PROJECT"You got to be careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there." ~ Yogi Berra

During the months of April and May, we will be working on a career-based research project. The purpose will be to prepare and educate students about a career of their choice and develop an action plan to earn that job over the next 5 years. This project will be completed in 3 separate stages.

In English class we will be discussing and/or covering:
  • Professionalism (dress, expectations, etc.)
  • Business Etiquette (how to speak and act in various forums)
  • Interviewing Skills
  • Resumes & Cover Letters
  • 3-4 Page Career Research Paper (educational requirements, necessary skills, job outlook, etc.)
  • Interview of a Professional in Your Desired Field
  • A 5 Year Plan Proposal

Career Cruising is a website that can help students research careers, research schools/education programs, take career/interest tests, create resumes, and much, much more! The best part is... Parkland students have FREE access to this site!

STAGE 2: INTERVIEW OF A PROFESSIONAL:"If we could sell our experiences for what they wold cost us, we'd all
be millionaires!" ~ Abigail Van Buren
You will also be required to interview a person in your field. Since we do not have the opportunity to actually experience our career quite yet, we CAN learn about the career by talking about a someone's experience who does work within it every day. In order to complete this portion of the project, you will create your own questions to ask, as well as actually complete the interview! Here are the handouts that should be used to complete this portion of the project:

STAGE 3: FIVE-YEAR PLAN PROPOSAL:"You got to be careful if you don't know where you're going, because you
might not get there." ~ Yogi Berra
For the last part of our job-shadow experience, students will be asked to develop a 5 year proposal plan. This plan will be a detailed explanation of what they will have to do over the next 5 years in order to get hired and become a successful (insert career here)!

Here are the handouts that should be used to complete this portion of the project:
